EMERSON'S MICRO MOTION CORIOLIS METERS IMPROVE LNG METERING

Expanding the effectiveness of PlantWeb digital plant architecture, Micro Motion meters with multivariable digital signal processing technology (MVD) are being used to address the unique measurement and operational requirements of LNG transfers. The patented MVD technology measures mass flow, density and temperature of the flowing fluid directly. Patented algorithms uniquely achieve and maintain superior meter performance at cryogenic temperatures.

Independent validation confirms that the Micro Motion factory calibration transfers directly to LNG and other cryogenic applications. This eliminates the requirement to establish methods of verifying calibration performance on cryogenic fluids as is necessary with alternative, volumetric metering techniques.

The Micro Motion Coriolis meter performance has been verified in LNG allocation and custody transfer metering at cryogenic temperatures. The flow performance of the company's meters has been certified by third party measurement verification laboratories such as NIST and CERN.

In addition, user experience includes over ten years of successful LNG measurement in such applications as high capacity rundown flows in Alaska, custody transfer in Australia and cryogenic process control in France. This run-time has clearly demonstrated that Micro Motion meters maintain meter factor stability and measurement repeatability in cryogenic applications.

Direct mass flow measurement eliminates the need for the separate fluid density compensation required by traditional volumetric technologies. This reduces costs and measurement uncertainty while simplifying installation. Additionally, Micro Motion meters are not impacted by flow profile, eliminating the need for straight pipe runs or flow conditioning devices, enabling compact and efficient skid based metering designs.

Coriolis flowmeters have no moving parts, enabling the meters to deliver improved system reliability and increased availability. The Micro Motion advanced digital communication technologies enable a range of predictive diagnostic capabilities which can be used to perform process based optimisation and maintenance improvements. When integrated into Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture, additional savings are realized.
