EMERSON INTRODUCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST SANITARY SENSOR WITH RA16 FINISH ON ALL WETTED PARTS
27 April 2005 - Emerson Process Management

The industry's first water-for-injection conductivity sensor with a 16-microinch Ra finish on all wetted surfaces has been introduced by Emerson Process Management. Designed for pharmaceutical and other applications where super sanitary conditions are a must, the new Rosemount Analytical Model 403 ENDURANCE Conductivity Sensor meets USP guidelines, section 645, while the finish meets DIN 3.1B standards.

Supporting Emerson's delivery of operations efficiency with PlantWeb digital plant architecture, the sensor design is rugged, measurement is reliable, and this completely sanitary sensor is quick to commission since no configuration is required.

"While pharmaceutical sensors have regularly met the Ra16 finish standard on the outside surfaces, this is the first time a sensor has provided this standard on all wetted parts," according to Dave Anderson, pharmaceutical industry manager at the Rosemount Analytical division of Emerson. "The new surface of the Model 403 responds to requests we regularly receive from pharmaceutical manufacturers and OEMs for a completely sanitary product."

To meet the needs of the pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries, the Model 403 ENDURANCE Conductivity Sensor is compatible with Tri-Clover sanitary process connections, and is equipped with a sanitary flange. It is suitable for steam sterilization up to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).

For fast, easy, and trouble-free start-up, the Model 403 is provided with an accurate predetermined factory cell constant; therefore no calibration is required. The user simply zeros the sensor in air, enters the cell constant and begins making measurements. The rugged design of the sensor keeps electrode spacing and surface area constant, so cell constants remain stable for long periods.

High-durability titanium electrodes contribute to long life and low operating costs. For temperature compensation, a PT 1000 RTD is standard with a PT 100 RTD available. The design of the sensor allows for very close tracking of the process temperature, thus providing highly accurate temperature-compensated measurements.

The Model 403 is compatible with a range of Rosemount Analytical analyzers and is most frequently paired with the Model 1055 Solu Comp IITM. This cost-effective analyzer provides single or dual input thus reducing the cost per loop and needed panel space. The Model 1055 is provided with preset WFI alarms.
