Arcom is pleased to announce continued growth in sales and profit results, a significant achievement in view of the underlying market conditions. Arcom forms part of the Electronic Controls sector within Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company. Spectris recently announced its 2003 preliminary results and recognized Arcom's strong financial growth.

The worldwide demand for low power, 32-bit embedded controllers combined with off-the-shelf embedded operating systems has returned to growth and Arcom is well placed to exploit these opportunities with its range of embedded PC and Intel XScale (ARM 5) based SBCs. Arcom is also the market leader for fully supported ready-to-run software Development Kits covering all the major embedded operating systems, providing customers with a one-stop supplier for complete system solutions. Arcom has recently expanded the electronic and mechanical design team in Cambridge and is now actively recruiting additional staff in Kansas to support new Windows CE .NET opportunities. Arcom is proud of its staff record, with more than one third of the entire staff having more than 10 years experience with the company, a great benefit for both product knowledge and long-term customer support.

During the last 6 months Arcom has won several major contracts for standard and custom products including the supply of GPRS enabled communication gateway systems (for asset monitoring), fan-less single board computers for truck based information terminals and sales of the new XScale based VIPER boards for medical instrumentation and vehicle telematics. There has also been a sharp increase in the number of contracts for Design and Build services, with a notable design win for an XScale based handheld data logger for voting systems.

Arcom is executing an aggressive development plan for 2004 with the introduction of more low power XScale products, very high performance fan-less embedded PCs and a number of other innovative technologies. Further announcements will be made in the second quarter.
