GE Multilin's PQM is a powerful digital metering device which provides continuous monitoring of threephase systems, including current, voltage, real and reactive power, power factor and frequency. This device is also available in a portable model, the PPQM, which is housed in a rugged carrying case. The PPQM additionally performs the roles of power management tool, troubleshooting tool and a data collection device.

These versatile devices are currently used in both utility and industrial metering applications. They are suited to many applications including continuous metering of distribution feeders, transformers, capacitor banks, generators and motors. Each voltage and current is sampled 64 times per cycle, which provides an accuracy level of 0.2%. Additionally, any of the assignable outputs on the device can be set to trigger an alarm for specific customer applications.

For industrial plant automation applications, customers can integrate process, instrumentation and electrical requirements by connecting a series of PQMs to a DCS or SCADA system. A computer running the PQMPC software can be used to change system setpoints, monitor values, status and alarms. . Additionally, the PQM can be easily integrated with a number of SCADA packages including GE's Power Management and Control System (PMCS), GE Fanuc CIMPLICITY, Wonderware, and a number of other Distributed Control System (DCS) configurations. Through the use of energy monitoring, customers have been able to save in reduced energy costs, as well as through avoiding power disturbance issues that may have caused downtime resulting in additional expenses.

The PQM easily grows with your applications needs. The relay uses non-volatile flash memory to store its operating firmware, allowing future product upgrades to be loaded via the serial port.
