LYNUXWORKS TODAY ANNOUNCED INTEGRATION OF THEIR HIGH-AVAILABILITY SOFTWARE PRODUCTS
26 June 2001 - LynuxWorks
| Combination of LynxOS and LEAP Helps Customers save time and Money
LynuxWorks Inc., a premier provider of open source and true real-time embedded solutions for the post-PC era, and NetPlane Systems, the protocol software business of Mindspeed Technologies and the leading supplier of networking protocol software solutions, today announced integration of their high-availability software products. |
This means that developers can use LynuxWorks' LynxOS hard real-time operating system with NetPlane's networking protocol software to quickly develop new carrier-class networking equipment. The companies also announced that they have joined each other's alliance programs. The companies collaborated to pre-integrate the LynxOS operating system and TCP/IP stack with NetPlane's LEAP porting and service architecture, which supports all of NetPlane's communications protocol products. This combination creates a powerful environment that enables developers to accelerate the delivery of new projects while leveraging the expertise of NetPlane and LynuxWorks to reduce risks. The LynxOS-LEAP integration has been delivered to a variety of customers building next-generation optical equipment ranging from edge to core devices. Both companies noted that further collaborative efforts could be expected now that NetPlane is a member of LynuxWorks' SynergyWorks program and LynuxWorks is a member of NetPlane's LEAP Partner Program. "We are pleased to be offering our mutual customers a solution that provides not only decreased development costs but also reduced development time for new networking products, and thereby faster conversion to revenue generation," said Al Cooley, Director of Business Development for NetPlane Systems. "Both of our organizations are focused on delivering high performance and high availability solutions, making future collaboration on tighter integration natural." Cooley pointed out that the key goal of NetPlane's LEAP program was to preserve the freedom and flexibility of networking equipment vendors while facilitating the development of more complete networking solutions. NetPlane's LEAP program is focused on its LEAP porting and service layer, which provides a series of well architected interfaces to target system resources. This ensures a simple, well-defined integration process, as well as preserving integration investments by ensuring backward compatibility. "Today, companies are faced with intense time-to-market and time-to-revenue pressures. They need to provide differentiated products, but those products must be standards based. Often quality, standards-compliant components present the most effective way to shorten their development cycles and mitigate risks. That is the benefit we are offering our customers with the pre-integration of our software products," said Greg Rose, director of product management for LynuxWorks. The integration files that integrate both LynxOS and its TCP/IP stack to NetPlane's LEAP OS and socket interfaces are immediately available at no charge to customers of either company. NetPlane Systems, Inc., a business of Mindspeed Technologies, the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems, Inc is a leading developer of integrated, networking-protocol software and systems for the control plane. More than 250 equipment manufacturers worldwide, which are developing products for the next-generation Internet and other data communications and telecommunications networks, employ NetPlane's software. NetPlane's technology expertise includes MPLS, ATM, frame relay and IP Routing, with a focus on carrier-class capabilities required by the service provider marketplace. NetPlane's Label Traffic Control System was the industry's first available MPLS software solution. Known for it technology innovation and the superior functionality and quality of its products, NetPlane's solutions enable customers to accelerate time to market, streamline the development process, lower life cycle costs and reduce development risks. The company's customers range from the world's leading networking manufacturers like Nortel, Cisco Systems, Lucent Technologies, Alcatel, Fujitsu, NEC, Siemens, and Ericsson to emerging next generation equipment manufacturers, such as Sirocco Systems and Ennovate Networks.
