GE MULTILIN ARE KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON AT THE GOLDEN PYRAMIDS
07 March 2003 - GE Industrial Systems
| The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. (EET) is using GE Multilin relays in a new 66/11kV substation that will supply power to a large new commercial center called the Golden Pyramids Plaza, the first of its kind in Egypt. The plaza, consisting of office and residential towers, as well as the hotels and a commercial center, will draw between 30 and 40 MW of power from the substation's 125MW capacity. This project is being completed jointly with GE-Hitachi HVB, who is supplying the high voltage breakers and switchgear for the substation. The protection, control and metering relays are being installed and commissioned by Matelec, a GE Multilin VAR based in Lebanon. |
The El-Nozha project involves a variety of protection relays from GE Multilin relays, including the D60 Universal Relay for line distance protection. This project represents a milestone for the D60, being the first application of this product in Egypt. Other relays being used include the DTP transformer protection, MIF feeder protection, BUS1000 busbar protection and auxiliary relays. In addition to the protection relays, the PQM provides accurate and reliable power quality metering of the substation?s three-phase system. GE Multilin is also providing the customer with on-site training for the different relays used in the substation. Mehmet Imeryuz, regional manager for GE Multilin, commented that, 'Our role in the El-Nozha project has established GE Multilin as a leading supplier for substation protection and control in Egypt. It also demonstrates our ability to work closely with suppliers such as GE-Hitachi HVB in providing a total solution to meet customer needs.'
