GE INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS SIGNS $50M AGREEMENT WITH ENELPOWER
21 May 2003 - GE Industrial Systems
| GE Industrial Systems announced today that they have secured a contract with Enelpower do Brazil for an electric power transmission project worth more than US$50 million to GE. The project is part of a larger effort to strengthen the inter-regional power transfer capability in Brazil and ultimately help alleviate power shortages in the Brazilian North-Eastern regions. GE will lead a consortium with Camargo Corrêa Equipamentos e Sistemas S.A., one of the largest engineering and construction companies in Brazil, to complete the project by the end of October 2003. |
The consortium will supply new Extra High Voltage (EHV) electrical power transmission substations and fixed as well as thyristor-controlled series compensation (TCSC) systems. In addition, they will provide field testing, training and maintenance services. The project will enable Enelpower do Brazil to deliver more energy to heavily populated areas. To ensure that the new systems are successful, GE will include the latest technology to prevent destabilizing power fluctuations. 'GE is committed to working with Enelpower do Brazil to strengthen power delivery to the people of Brazil,' said Lloyd Trotter, president and CEO, GE Industrial Systems. 'GE is pleased to be able to work together with Enelpower to provide electrical control and protection systems, bringing peace of mind to Brazilian consumers.'
