SENIOR VP TIM DEHNE NAMED RICE UNIVERSITY 2005 OUTSTANDING YOUNG ENGINEERING ALUMNUS

"The Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus award honors Rice engineering graduates who set the standard for all alumni with respect to personal achievement, community service and commitment to Rice," said John T. Perez, Rice Engineering Alumni president and executive officer for Celerity3 Engineering. "Tim Dehne has excelled in business on both the corporate and industry levels at a very young age. Dehne has never forgotten Rice and has done much for the university without expectation of acknowledgment and recognition. Through this award, the Rice Engineering Alumni association honors alumni leaders, such as Tim, for their achievements and gives other Rice engineers access to their wisdom."

Dehne leads the global R&D organization for National Instruments in Austin. His responsibilities include product strategy, product development and product quality. In his current role, Dehne manages R&D centers in the United States, Germany, China and India. Under his direction, NI R&D has developed and adopted global strategies, processes and metrics for successfully innovating quality products that lead to worldwide customer success. NI engineers work together to design, build and test virtual instrumentation software and hardware to become part of a broad platform of computer-based solutions with unmatched integration.

During his 18 years at National Instruments, Dehne has served as NI vice president of engineering, NI vice president of marketing, NI vice president of strategic marketing and NI GPIB product marketing manager. He is currently a member of the Dwight Look College of Engineering External Advisory Council at Texas A&M University and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for R&D Magazine. Dehne earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1987 from Rice University, where he also was a member of the Rice University baseball team. Dehne is active in recruiting and the Rice classroom/research cooperation program. He serves as the National Instruments executive sponsor of the relationship with Rice and holds regular meetings to ensure strong support in advancing Rice's efforts and success.

The Rice Engineering Alumni group annually recognizes outstanding engineering alumni in two categories. The Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus award was presented for the first time in 1996. It recognizes the achievements of engineers under the age of 40. The Outstanding Engineering Alumnus award, which has been presented every year since 1974, recognizes alumni for careers of outstanding professional achievement and community service. This year, Pat H. Moore received the Outstanding Engineering Alumnus honor.
