To improve the deployment and availability of FPRI and FE1 services, the new E800 ISDN multiplexer from Microtel combines the functions of an 8-port E1 cross-connect and an 8-line ISDN switch in a compact module. The new unit is designed to deliver bundled services covering ISDN, Internet access and legacy data services when used in conjunction with Microtel's E141 and E201 access units. The E800 is equally suited to the integration of these services for users in multi-tenant buildings or at the point of presence for a network service provider. In a multi-tenant building, a distance of up to 1.5 km can be covered between the E800 and the access units using two twisted copper pairs. The multiplexer will connect to several access units, and cross-connects the different FE1 data services into a single E1 trunk, while bundling the different fractional PRI (primary rate ISDN) lines onto a single PRI interface. The E800 is available in desktop or rack-mount configurations. When installed in a point-of-presence environment, several modules can be installed in a single 19-inch card nest.

In response to customer demand to optimise the use Wide Area Network resources, Microtel has introduced a new access unit, the E141, which will offer the benefit of combining the functions of a smart ISDN access switch together with a time-division multiplexer. The new unit presents four ISDN (BRI), 64 kbit/s serial data as well as IP Ethernet traffic simultaneously over a single E1 connection. It is equally suited to the delivery of combined services for telecom operators and within enterprise networks or simply providing point-to-point multi-service connectivity over 2 Mbit/s links between different sites. The standard E141 unit comes with one 2 Mbit/s G.703 interface, four basic rate ISDN interfaces, one universal N×64k interface and one Ethernet interface. The G.703 interface towards the backbone offers the flexibility of operating either as a primary rate ISDN interface, or as a channelised E1 connection or a combination of both. The unit is fully compliant with the Euro-ISDN standard (Q.931), and features full ISDN switching between all the ISDN ports to reduce network costs. It includes a facility for basic rate to primary rate ISDN aggregation and ISDN number alteration for further network savings.

It is based on the new G.SHDSL standard for higher speeds and longer loop ranges.
